Homebush flyer - Sieders snares Pole #4 for 2011
Saturday, 03 December 2011 14:57

David Sieders has steered his Australian Industrial Supplies XR8 Ford Ute to its fourth Pole Position in the 2011 Auto One V8 Ute Seres – protected by Armor All on the streets of Homebush Olympic Park this morning, 3rd December 2011.

The Londonderry (NSW) resident, was hoping to put on a good show in front of local crowds, and has gotten off to the perfect start, bagging $1000 from Armor All for setting the fastest time (1:46.5054) in today’s Qualifying session, redeeming his 2010 result.

“We wanted to come out and put on a good show for our local family and supporters, and to put it on Pole is the perfect start,” said Sieders, “last year our timing got messed up during a wet and drying Qualifying session, so to put it on Pole this year is a great turn around.”

With Sieders’ early laps failing to move him to the top of the timing sheets, a quick pit stop part way through the session allowed him to refocus before rejoining the session with much better pace.

“We had a bit of an issue early in the session with our brakes and grip,” said Sieders, “but we were able to settle the issue down in Pit Lane, and managed to get back out and bank that all important time on our first flying lap”.

Backing up from his result at Sandown Raceway just two weeks ago, Sieders’ time this morning has also given him fifty percent of all available Pole Positions for the Championship, and twice the number achieved in his Rookie Season last year.

“Our cars have been really quick all year, and to start on that number one spot for half of the season has been unbelievable,” said Sieders, “we’ve actually been able to start Race One inside the Top Five every Round, which is a real testament to the Team and the car they put together for me”.

Joining the AIS Racing Ute on the front row for this afternoon’s race is Championship Leader, Chris Pither, and with second placed Ryal Harris behind him, Sieders has a lot of work to do if he’s to move up any further in the Championship from his current position three ranking.

“I would have liked Ryal [Harris] and [Chris] Pither to have been a little further down the field, but there’s a reason we’re all fighting for the Championship,” said Sieders, “we’re down to seven points to pass Ryal into second, but we’ve still got 54 points to make up for the lead”.

Sieders will lead out the Auto One V8 Ute Series field for Race One scheduled today at 5:45pm, with Race Two kicking off tomorrow at 8:30am, followed by the third and final race of the season at 11:15am (which will also be televised from midday on the Seven Network – check local guides).

“Ultimately, there is not a lot that I can do to influence the Championship from here, so I’m just going to keep my focus on a continuing with a really strong performance on my home track, and whatever happens in the Championship will sort itself out.”
